Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith has also called on law-abiding citizens to stand up and fight for their freedom, by
The commissioner has stated, on Saturday in his media release, that in the face of the intolerable number of murders, comprehensively serious and violent crimes have dropped in comparison to previous years.
Commissioner Griffith assumed responsibility of the TTPS in August of 2018. In his seventeen months in this capacity, Griffith said there has been a modernisation and transformation of the TTPS.
The release stated, “The TTPS has good leaders and officers who are prepared to die for their country, so by trying to make the TTPS the fall guy, when these officers go out daily willing to put their lives on the line for their country, is very unfortunate.”
Commissioner Griffith highlighted some of the accomplishments of the TTPS over the past year.
- Establishment of E-999 Command Centre
- Use of Body Cams
- Establishment of the Emergency Response Patrol
- Vehicle with Cameras
- Commissioner’s Command Centre
- GPS and other tracking systems with real-time communication
- Deployed in excess of 100 motorcycles for duty,
- Introduced a mobile detention unit for use in riot/crowd control
- Launched the new TTPS Mobile App.
Several specialized units have also been created, such as the Special Operations Response Team (SORT), Special Investigations Unit, Cold Case Missing Persons Unit, White Collar Crime Unit to name a few.
“To those who continue to criticize, they may be unaware that the TTPS has been playing our part and doing all that we can possibly do, but it stops at the arrest and charges being laid,” he said. Griffith reminded citizens that 2019 carnival was recorded as the safest.
Always be diligent in our duties, and cautious with our action. Have a safe carnival.
